چکیده

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major threat to humans and animals globally. stewardship has been acknowledged as primary strategy tackle AMR. An important first step for antimicrobial quantify use (AMU). In Fiji, there are currently no data on AMU in livestock farms. This study aimed different enterprises (beef, dairy, broiler, layer) farming systems (backyard, semi-commercial commercial) Central Western divisions of Viti Levu, Fiji. A survey with 210 farmers 26 managers representing 276 was conducted between May September 2019. The difference investigated using ANOVA. the estimated annual antibiotic lower than global average (44 compared 118 mg/PCU). However, this concentrated 56% participant farms (the remaining 44% did not antimicrobials). Total quarterly anthelmintic (20,797 mg) affected by but highest (P < 0.001) dairy (24,120 lowest broiler (4 mg). Quarterly regardless metrics used 0.05). mg/PCU (12.4 mg/PCU) beef (0.2 For all other ESVAC metrics, total higher poultry cattle enterprises. Backyard less antibiotics (total commercial systems, trend reversed. both anthelmintics (rather or alone, AMU) associated (Χ2 = 123, P 0.001). Further studies should be evaluate drivers Fijian addition, differences suggest that strategies reduce tailored specific settings.

Use of antimicrobial agents in livestock.

Antimicrobial agents, especially antibacterial agents, are used throughout the world, across a diverse array of extensive and intensive livestock production systems, to protect the health and welfare of livestock and to improve their performance. While some agents that are used in livestock belong to classes that have no counterpart in human medicine, this is not the case for the most widely us...

Association of antimicrobial resistance in Campylobacter isolated from food-producing animals with antimicrobial use on farms.

On 1,374 food-producing animal farms in 2001-2004, we investigated the influence of antimicrobial usage within 6 months before a survey conducted on antimicrobial resistance in Campylobacter. Tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones were used for therapeutic purposes on 107 and 21 farms, respectively. Oxytetracycline-resistant C. jejuni and C. coli were found in 57.1% (8/14) and 92.5% (37/40) of the ...

Treatment practices and quantification of antimicrobial drug usage in conventional and organic dairy farms in Wisconsin.

The objective of this study was to develop a method to quantify antimicrobial drug usage and treatment practices on conventional and organic dairy farms that had been recruited to represent a broad spectrum of potential exposure to antimicrobial drugs. Data on disease prevalence and treatment practices of organic (n = 20) and conventional (n = 20) farms were obtained during a farm visit using a...

Antimicrobial Resistance in Livestock Production

Salmonella is a foodborne pathogen generally associated with mild to moderate self-limiting gastroenteritis. In the United States the incidence of salmonellosis (16.37 cases per 100,000 population/ year) ranked highest among the pathogens tracked by FoodNet in 2012 (CDC, 2014). Furthermore, invasive infections accounted for 5% of the reported salmonellosis cases during 1996-2006 (Jones 2008). W...
